Environmental scanning involves looking at three different environments which ultimately define the company's playing field. The most useful resources are class texts written by various authors and can be found in various libraries. The texts are usually very good when defining all the core concepts for related topics and it lays a good foundation for the topic at hand. Other than internal sources that a company might have and learn from, external resources of hard data on which to base strategic decisions are vital to conducting successful environmental scans.
