How can conflicts related to multicultural virtual teams be resolved? In a virtual team there are team members of different cultures each of whom has different goals, different methods of working, and has differences in experience.
This question is interesting because unless inherent conflicts because of multicultural virtual team is resolved, optimum productivity cannot be reached. The purpose of having a multicultural team is defeated. Every manager of a virtual team will care for the results of this study.
This study can be carried out amongst members of actual virtual team, oir this study can be done among managers of virtual teams.
I expect the results of the study will give important pointers to managers and leaders of virtual teams. The result will also help in formation of virtual teams that will have less conflicts and lead to improved productivity. I expect the results will given recommendation to managers to improve synergy and productivity among virtual teams.
My idea on the topic is that virtual teams are multicultural teams this can lead to lack of cohesiveness. There is relatively weak message understanding. The messages are sent in the context of a persons culture and the recipient interprets it from the point of view of his culture. This leads to poor understanding. In a virtual team there is no freedom of speech. The employee is explicitly required to be sensitive to other's race, cultural background, beliefs, and values (1). This constrains team members from airing their views and communicating. This gag on speech actually restricts members from giving their views about problems. Apart from problem solving, the multicultural nature of virtual teams restricts team members from airing creative ideas. Further, training needs to be provided to team members and to the team leader for dealing with multicultural interaction in virtual teams. Training also has to be provided to reduce prejudice and effectively deal with conflict. Providing this training to team leader and team members can be costly.
