Gantt chart is a horizontal bar chart that is used in process planning and control to display planned work and finished work in relation to time. It is frequently used in project management. A Gantt chart provides a graphical illustration of a schedule that helps to plan, coordinate, and track specific tasks in a project. Gantt charts can be created on graph paper or more complex automated versions created using project management applications such as Microsoft Project or Excel.

Gantt charts address the time of individual work elements giving a time line for each activity of a project. This type of chart is the predecessor of PERT. As we can see in figure 1, it is really easy to understand the graph, but in developing it you need to take into consideration certain precedence relationships between the different activities of the project.
