Assessment: See attached document

The assessment has been completed and I have determined that the organization has an Urgent/Seat of the Pants type of culture. Based on the scores, I need help with:

• Whether or not they fit any general expectations or constitute a surprise in some ways. Please help me interpret the results of the assessment, either to confirm or to question the results by comparing findings with the McNamara categories.

•The degree to which the McGinty/Moss assessment and the McNamara information tell similar or dissimilar things about organizations in general.

• Identifying if the assessment and the McNamara categories help improve managerial understanding and/or skills? What can be inferred from the assessment results about how an organization's culture fits or doesn't fit with the general public? What (if anything) can be done to make interaction with the culture more effective?

•An opinion on whether or not the questions asked help to understand organizations. Do they accurately assess what is needed to analyze a company's culture?

I am NOT asking for a completed assignment. I am simply asking for a broader understanding of how the results of the McGinty/Moss assessment compare with McNamara. Thanks!

Solution Summary

This was a very challenging response since finding academic references for the assessments the student is studying proved difficult. I tried to show that assessing corporate culture in a complex process, and the assessments under consideration in this question are only a starting point. I did however agree with the students assessment of the organization under consideration. Several references were provided for the student's consideration, and should be the basis for a great response.

1. The assessment has been completed and I have determined that the organization has an Urgent/Seat of the Pants type of culture. I identify with this assessment as I feel the organization that I work for operates by the seat-of-their pants. Since the Federal Department of Education (DOE) is changing rules and standards almost daily in response to political directives, private educational organizations find themselves scrambling each day to keep up with the expectations that are sent out by the DOE. This response is going to be very interesting for me.

a. Let me start with a comment based on personal experience. I have been in the workforce since for many years, and many organizations I am associated with have operated on a seat-of-the pants methodology. I believe organizational structure may affect this methodology, but any type of organizational structure may follow this methodology. However, organizations that depend on a strong centralized organizational structure are more susceptible to this type of methodology because the leadership team is not focused on how decisions they make affect the people who work for them. ...
