In this paper, I am describing a list of 'Organization Behavior Problems' of the unit of FMC Corporation and providing effective recommendations for the Company. In this series, in the first section I am describing the introduction of the Company and its problems. //

The Green River unit of FMC Corporation has various problems. The problems of the company related with its organizational behavior can be solved with a brief analysis of the organization behavior of the company. The organizational behavior analysis contains four basic steps such as introduction & background, organizational analysis, alternatives and recommendations and implementation of a contingency plan.

The whole analysis of the company will include several topics including management ability, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, organizational ethics, job design & goal setting, performance appraisal, pay, carrier development, groups & team work, leadership, communications, organizational structure, organizational culture, organizational change and organizational development.

Introduction & Background

FMC Corporation is a manufacturing company based in Chicago. The company has several units at different sites. Two of its most famous units are FMC Green River and FMC Aberdeen. The FMC Green River unit of the company operates its business for the manufacturing of the chemicals (FMC Corporation, 2008). The Green river unit does its operations at global level. It started its first plant in 1948. At Green River unit a large number of employees are engaged. Due to its large operational activities, the company has several problems in its organizational structure.

The problems of the employees at Green River are related with salaries, job satisfaction, ethical problems, leadership practices, communication problems, carrier development etc. The company does not have a good organization structure and culture. The site manager of the Green River Unit, Kenneth Dailey wants to make some changes in its organization in order to solve the problems of conflicts among its employees and between the management and the employees.

The mission of the company is to provide best products to different industries and maintain good corporate culture in the organization to increase the productivity of the company. The company has its visions at high level. The vision of the company is to achieve the highest position in the international business environment. The objectives are the end results of planned activity. The objectives of FMC Green River state what is to be accomplished by when and should be quantified if possible. The goal is an open ended statement of what one wants to accomplish with no quantification of what is to be achieved and no time criteria for completion. The main goals and criteria of the company are as under:

· Growth of the company by increasing the total assets and net sales.

· Increasing profitability by increasing the net profits.

· Appropriate utilization of the resources.

· Contribution to the employees in terms of employment security, wages, diversity, etc.

· Contribution to the society in terms of taxes paid, participation in charities, providing a needed product or service etc.

· Personal needs of the top management (Wilson & Gilligan, 2005).

The Green River unit of the FMC Corporation makes its strategies in very planning way. A strategy of a corporation forms a comprehensive master plan stating how the company will achieve its mission and objectives. It maximizes competitive advantages and minimizes competitive disadvantages. The company has three types of strategies including corporate strategy, business strategy and functional strategy.

Corporate strategy: The Corporate strategy of the company typically fits within the three main categories of stability, growth, and retrenchment. This strategy describes the overall direction in terms of its general attitude toward growth and the management of its various businesses and product lines.

Business Strategy: This strategy of the company fits within two categories of the company; competitive strategy and corporative strategy. This strategy emphasizes improvement of the competitive position of the company's products and services.

Functional Strategy: This strategy of the company is related with functional areas of the company to achieve corporate and business unit objectives and strategies by maximizing resources productivity. This strategy is concerned with developing and nurturing a distinctive competence (Wilson & Gilligan, 2005).

The organizational analysis of FMC Green River can be done through various organizational aspects. The main aspects for the organizational analysis of the Green River unit are management ability, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, job design and goal setting, performance appraisal, pay, carrier development, groups and team work, leadership, communications, organizational structure, organizational culture, organizational change and organizational development.

· The Management Ability: For the success of the organization it is essential to ensure that whether the employees of the organization are able enough to perform their jobs at required level. The management can improve the ability of its employees through the adoption of three various steps including selection, placement and training of the employees.
