The delivering of value with information technology is of paramount importance to any organization that seeks to effectively increase its efficiency and effectiveness within its given industry. Due to this fact it is important that organizations find a systematic methodology by which to increase the level and or amount of value that is delivered by the information technology system that is being utilized within the organization, which includes the optimum efficient utilization of the management and staff within the IT department as well. One of the first steps that should be taken in delivering value with IT is to effectively departmentalize as well as centralize the functions of this area of the organization, so that the IT department is an efficient self-contained unit in many respects. This essentially means that the IT department management should be given greater discretion in ascertaining the needs of the department and developing the methodology by which the department will function at optimum capacity. A major component of this departmentalization and centralization involves setting up a strong centralized chain of command within this department which includes senior and middle management, as well as highly trained staff. It is very important that the senior management and middle management within this organization have a great deal of experience and knowledge and IT management, in order to effectively manage the operations of this department.
