Select three of the following trends in global business, and then choose the leadership theory or model you believe would allow you, as a global leader, to effectively address each trend. Geopolitical realignment: The trend is that since Trump has become the President, his support for NATO will be low. He has warm feelings towards Putin and Russia and a wish to work closer with Russia. The Geopolitical realignment is that there would be US-Russia and Europe-China. The EU members will increase military spending but UK, since it has decided to leave the EU will follow the US into the Russian camp (a). This realignment is relevant to business leaders because there will be new opportunities for US businesss in Russia and UK. At the same time opportunities for US businesses in the EU may become relatively lower.
The leadership theory that I would like to use to address this trend is the Situational Leadership theory by Hersey-Blanchard. According to this theory no single leadership style is best. The most effective leaders are those that are able to adopt their style to the situation and look at ones such as the type of task.
The application of this theory to the Geopolitical realignment is that the business leaders must be able to adopt their style to the emerging Geopolitical realignment. If the US company has to do business in Russia the leader must modify his leadership style to suit Russian business environment.
Situational leadership theory is appropriate to address Geopolitical realignment, because with the realignment, businesses will have to operated in different environments, deal with people of different cultures, and successfully market their products/services in countries with different laws.
