In current business environment, to retain skilled employees for long period of time, it becomes essential for firms to provide comprehensive fire safety programs to mitigate hazards involving fire at the workplace (Coniglio, 2010). XYZ firm provides different safety programs related to fire safety programs to its employees, which ensure fear free working environment. This paper discusses programs and training sessions that are used by the firm to build and train a cross-functional fire and safety committee to train employees to respond to fire dangers.
Fire Safety Programs
In the organization, several fire hazards can be faced by employees at the workplace such as electric fire, portable electric heaters hazard, etc. In order to mitigate hazards at the workplace, the firm will build a cross-functional fire and safety committee, which will be responsible to execute relevant programs and policies. In order to prevent fire hazard, codes and standards as life safety code under National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) will be followed (Goetsch, 2011). As a part of the program, replacement of worn wires, use of rated fuses, avoidance of extension cords as substitutes for wiring improvements, use of approved extension cord, avoidance of overloading circuits with office equipment and support to the turn off nonessential electrical equipment at the end of each workday will be sustained at the workplace. It is because these programs will reduce the chances of fire hazards (Goetsch, 2012).
Formation of Committee
In order to train employees to respond to fire dangers, emergency training will be provided to employees covered by thorough knowledge, prevention and protection for emergencies. For this, committee named "Life Safety and Protection" will be formed, which will work under the framework defined by several protection agencies. The committee will identify and construct the organizational policy related to the workplace's physical environment in terms of identifying the areas, which need to be addressed for fire and life safety (Goetsch, 2012).
