Hewlett Packard under Carly Fiorina has a vision of rejuvenating the company. She went to different Hewlett Packard units all over the world and urged the employees to perform better. The Hewlett Packard/Compaq merger was the contingency plan if the company was not revitalized. She overhauled the structure of the company, consolidated the operating units and flattened the structure of Hewlett Packard. She wanted to focus more on services so that the profitability could be increased. And she tried to modernize the culture of the company. Yet the plan failed.
