For the purpose of this assignment, I am presenting my real life answers. My name is Sandeep and I am from India. I have worked in United States in financial services after completing my MBA and thus, will be able to answer questions from the perspective of people from different ethnic background who come to work in countries like USA and face several issues. The companies where i worked was a stockbroking firm in Wall Street area of New York City and I was heading one of their business division which focused on managing investments of people of South Asian origin in United States.

Has the person being passed up for career advancement because of their ethnic background?

When I completed my MBA, I started looking for jobs in United States in several fields such as consulting and strategy, marketing,etc. However, even though I was qualified, I was refused a job offer and other candidates were preferred because I was not a US citizen and came from a different ethnic background. There were two primary reasons for this refusal. First, companies did not wanted to sponsor my work visa and thus, preferred candidates who were US citizens. Secondly, they felt that being a person from South Asia, I will not be able to understand the culture, customs and consumers of USA, especially in marketing and selling or consulting job positions. Thus, I lost many job offers, despite being qualified and experienced.
