I can help you since I have both participated in market research, and worked on the flip side, developing the market research studies.
One of the most recent market research surveys I participated in was where they sent me a product to try at home, and then I had to answer the questions related to the survey. The product was a new type of deodorant. We were told to use it for 2 weeks, and then were asked various questions about how we felt about the product.
How effective do you think the survey was in measuring how you felt about a product?
Now, since we were actually able to test the product, I would expect the survey to be able to ask us direct and clear questions. This differs then asking a person to think about a product that used in the past. Here, we have direct and recent experience with the product.
The questions asked were along the line of:
- did you enjoy the product? (yes/no)
- would you buy the product on your own? (yes/no)
- how much would you pay for the product? ____$
- would you tell your friends about the product? (yes/no)
I so not feel like the questions would really provide enough info on how the person felt about the product. Firstly, the survey only allowed us to provide closed ended ended questions with no way for the people to elaborate. For example, if the person answered that they did not enjoy the question, there is no way for the researchers to understand why. Why did you not like the product is a critical ...
