As the boundaries of trade are diminishing, impact of globalization are being felt across the world. As a result world is becoming a global marketplace where there is movement of trade, investment, technology, finance and labor. Every organization wants to take advantage of the prevailing global culture. However to do so the leadership must have a set of standard of excellence, have greater knowledge of the context and should be competent in driving a diverse group of people across the world (Cavarkapa & Flynn, n.d).The global environment is much more complex than local marketplace in terms of predictability, complexity and controllability. In order to deal with these challenges, the role of decision maker becomes of paramount importance.
Decision theory and Leadership
Decision theory analyzes the importance of making decisions in uncertain situations. It provides a rational framework for choosing between alternatives courses of action when the consequences resulting from this choice are imperfectly known (North, 1968).
The change in leadership profiles from past to present has interesting implications for leadership development. For many decades in the field of leadership studies transformational leadership has been the theory of choice. The focus of transformational leader is directed towards organization for which the leader builds follower commitment towards organizational commitment through empowering followers to accomplish those objectives (). Servant leadership has seen high level of interest in the literature because of which there is high level of concern for followers. With the society opening up for globalization, leadership has also responded through some key changes to the way it organizes itself. As a result of this servant leadership could be considered as a viable option in the global marketplace.
