Bearing in mind that Bolman and Deal's definition of politics is not necessarily negative but is intended to compete for scarce resources; there are a lot of things that could have been done differently from the political perspective. The leader was provost Ron Bunn and his proposal of abolishing two of the university's schools and colleges and drastically reducing the operations of seven others over three years started a "firestorm" (a).
If we examine the firestorm we will see that the firestorm is simply an effort by affected parties to compete for scarce budgetary resources. Those who are fighting for scarce budgetary resources are those who have been affected by the announcement of Bunn. Viewing the actions from the Political Frame we observe that key administrators and faculty in the affected programs avoided participation in the campus review process and instead appealed to alumni, interest groups, professional groups, and other politicians.
