According to the review done by Kirkpatrick and Locke (1991) about the major leadership traits, there are six major traits of leadership that makes a leader effective. These six traits are discussed below:

Drive and Ambition: This is an important quality that a leader should pursue. A leader must be full of ambitions and vision. This are the broader term that do not concern with fulfillment of the physical need. This is the trait that create a passion for the goal in a leader and this passion reflects in the high effort level to achieve the goal.

Leadership motivation: The leader must possess a high level of motivation and moral. Here the word motivation includes an intense desire to lead other to reach to a common goal. This trait enables the leader to achieve the basic and common objective. Self motivation is an important character of a leader because for motivating follower, it is important that a leader should be motivated about the goal himself. Successful leaders must be willing to control the followers with authority so that he can efficiently use the available resources.

Honesty and Integrity: This character of the leader reflects his quality to be trustworthy among the followers. Basically Integrity stands for the symmetry between word and deed and honesty refers to being truthful and reliable for his own words. These trait are important for a leader as they make leader more popular and responsible for the followers.
