In a virtual collaboration, we have people come together to form a team, which may be a team of two people or a team consisting of many people. The primary means of virtual collaboration is over a direct connection on the internet. There are countless internet services that offer virtual collaboration "rooms" free of charge to students and professionals, and serve as a valuable tool for the virtual collaboration process. Virtual collaboration can be accomplished with or without audio conferencing. When we combine it with audio conferencing, the productivity of the team automatically increases, because the communication becomes quicker with less chances of error. We can think of it as two people chatting over the internet in a virtual collaboration room. If we now add one person calling the other person on their telephone, the two people can now use virtual collaboration, including various room features like a whiteboard where drawings can be made and other documents can be shown (like PowerPoint slides), and now we also have the two people talking back and forth on the telephone. Neither party has to type what they're saying, or use any other means except to verbally communicate the message that they are sending with the virtual collaboration object that they are displaying. The communication becomes very effective, which is crucial in virtual settings, due to the lack of physical contact.
