The recognition of knowledge management as a critical part of an organization has grown over the years with the very essence of creating knowledge within an organization being the core source and critical factor to organizational learning. Various models have been put forward in the past two decades to explain knowledge management within organizations in the face of many changes that have taken place during this time. Whereas earlier models were more people focused, more recent models are more technology and people focused. Despite this numerous models which have different approaches, most knowledge management cycle models view knowledge creation as a spiral process or a cycle where knowledge first moves from the individuals, going to the groups, then the organization and finally a wider domain consisting of various organizations with each of the groups holding different forms of knowledge (Sagsan, & Zorlu, 2010). In addition the knowledge management cycle models have four loops that are essential for knowledge creation and management. These are creating knowledge, organizing knowledge, sharing knowledge and applying knowledge (Serrat, 2008).
