A Human Resources professional is trained to recruit and retain employees of all organizations. In order to do this, HR must utilize all necessary tools available. A major part of core competencies n the Department of Defense is the staffing measures used to effectively select workers. In order to diversify Human Resources selection, the Department of Defense must understand how technology will increase core competency, increase productivity and how to improve technology to meet organizational goals.
Core competency
The core competency of all Human Resource professionals include: Accountability, integrity, diversity, respect, service orientation, and teamwork. Each of these functions as a base line to fulfill organizational needs. In the Department of Defense meeting the staffing needs is a priority. All Human Resource employees are required to have basic knowledge of laws and guidelines of the government. Technology is becoming a standard in the DOD to convey information to workers about HR Practices. According to Shrm.org (2011), "social media tools foster more-efficient communication with dispersed workers, have self-service features that free up HR staff members to focus on strategic issues, and allow employees to swap tips and experiences around topics such as wellness or 401(k) investments"(Para 1). Social media has become a major advancement in the marketing strategy of many organizations, expanding the ability to advertise positions to potential workers
Productivity of workers
Department of Defense workers utilize trademark websites such as USA Jobs.gov, Clearance jobs.com, and Civilian personnel online to advertise positions. In order to do this, workers are trained on the uploading systems such as Oracle and Resumix that are directly integrated into the databases.
