Consider the following scenario:
Jim Delaney, president of Apex Door, has a problem. No matter how often he tells his employees how to do their jobs, they invariably "decide to do it their own way," as he puts it, and arguments ensue among Jim, the employee, and the employee's supervisor. One example is the door-design department, where the designers are expected to work with the architects to design doors that meet the specifications. While it's not "rocket science," as Jim puts it, the designers invariably make mistakes such as designing too much steel (a problem that can cost Apex tens of thousands of wasted dollars once you consider the number of doors in, say, a 30-story office tower).
The order processing department is another example. Jim has a very specific and detailed way he wants the order written up, but most of the order clerks don't understand how to actually use the multipage order form. They simply improvise when it comes to a detailed question such as whether to classify the customer as "industrial" or "commercial."
The current training process is as follows. None of the jobs have a training manual per se; although, several have somewhat out-of-date job descriptions. The training for new people is all on the job. Usually the person leaving the company trains the new person during the one to two week overlap period, but if there's no overlap, the new person is trained as sufficiently as possible by other employees who have filled in occasionally on the job in the past. The training is basically the same throughout the company for machinists, secretaries, assemblers, accounting clerks, etc.
For this assignment, assume that you have been hired by Apex Door to develop a training program. Develop a training proposal that provides specific suggestions on what you will do to improve the training process at Apex Door.

The paper will give a training program for the organization and will also give necessary suggestions to improve the present training system of the organization. Training is very important for an organization, as it provides right direction for an employee and updates the knowledge and skills. It helps in enhancing the growth and development of the organization and leads to important changes in the performance of the employees.

Suggestions for improvements in training program

The organization should aim at improving the training program for the employees. The various improvements that it should make in the training program are as given:

The Organization should develop a separate training program and method for training employees in various sectors.
The machinists, assemblers, accounting clerks etc. should be given training according to their work and area of specialization. Same training cannot be given to all, as everybody needs training according to his own work field. This will help in training the employees in the right manner (Dessler, 2003).
The Organization should adopt effective training techniques and should devote time for imparting 'off the job training' to the employees. This will make the employees learn in a much better way, as they will be able to concentrate only on training and not on job at the same time.
New job descriptions should be made for each job, so that, it is easy to understand the nature, duties and responsibilities of a job.
The training methods should be designed in such a way that it leads to maximum benefit of the employees, as well as, the organization.
The training for the new employees should be done with special care and should be carried out in a systematic way. It should not misguide them and help them in understanding their job at the workplace (Dessler, 2003).
The above mentioned suggestions should be followed by the organization if it needs to develop an effective and systematic training program. It will benefit the employees and the organization in a great way.
