What are the components of a complete grant proposal?

The components of a complete grant proposal are:

1. The statement of need or opportunity. This is key in asking for money and convincing funders of the need. It is important to be specific about the situation, assuming that the reader is completely ignorant about the subject, the area or community, and the need. It is important to be positive and show the need or opportunity as one that can be addressed through your proposal.

2. Goals & Objectives. This component shows what you intend to solve with your proposal/project. Goals "refer to the general things you want to accomplish" (White & Castelloe, 2013). This might be, "We want to distribute free books to less fortunate children in our community." Objectives are measurable outcomes, "350 children will be given new books, and we will document the children's name and ages as proof." It is important to be specific as possible.

3. Project activities. This is the component that describes how you will carry out your project. "We will gather the children in the after-school program and read stories out loud before letting the children pick a book to take home." This should include involvement of target population and organization, time frame, and any partnering organizations.
