Ethics: The manager must demonstrate a well-grounded, commendable sense of ethics. Employees will look to the manager to demonstrate well-rounded ethics, and if good ethical principles are not present, the employees will determine that it is acceptable to act in the workplace with an ill-sense of ethics. If the manager's abilities show that his or her ethical foundation is strong, it will show, and the employees will know from implied behavior on the manager's part that all acts in the business place must be ethical, to be acceptable.

Self: The manager must know himself or herself, and it must show within the workplace. The manager, by actions, inwardly and outwardly defines their sense of self to the employees. If the manager is lacking in this ability, to demonstrate this concept to a satisfactory level, the employees will determine that the manager lacks confidence, and it could hinder the respectful part of the employee/manager relationship. If the manager has a strong sense of self, it will also be demonstrated through the manager's words and actions, and the mutual relationship of trust, respect, and loyalty between the employees and their managers will develop on a continual basis.
