MOTIVATION MODELS

Motivation models intend to provide managers with guidelines in formulating strategies that would enhance the performance of employees. Among the motivation models that a manager may utilize and the corresponding change situations in which they may be applied are as follows:

1. Needs - Goal Theory
This motivation model hypothesizes that felt needs cause human behaviour (Certo, 2000). This indicates that because of a felt need, a person tends to behave accordingly supportive of his goal to fill up such felt needs. Hence the time utilized, the efforts exerted, and commitment provided by an employee in his work are aimed towards a goal of filling up his needs. He will be motivated if, through the fulfilment of his tasks, he was able to satisfy his needs.
