Why Is It Important that Warehouse Managers Understand and Do Their Job Well?
The logistics industry has never been as technologically-equipped as before. The core logistics activity takes place in the warehouse but it cannot be fully automated away, at least not for now or in the near future. It is for this reason that the warehouse manager needs to understand the various duties and responsibilities that are increasingly changing. Warehouse managers need to have the knowledge and skills to perform increasingly complex supervisory functions.
In order to do his job well, a warehouse supervisor or manager needs to understand the details of the warehouse operations and how he could fulfill his responsibilities. Warehouse jobs have changed a lot compared to the past years and the warehouse employees' job description incorporates duties which were formerly associated with other logistics activities such as purchasing, inventory control, and customer service.
A warehouse manager needs to have the appropriate education and training for the job. It is also necessary to take seminars, workshops and on-going training so that he will be updated of what's new in the logistics industry and in other related sectors that affect the warehousing functions. Warehouse staff need to be managed carefully because it is a crucial that they can perform their duties efficiently and effectively. The warehouse jobs especially the warehouse manager's job are not easy to automate as these people need to actually oversee operations 'on the ground.'
