I would say this. When a company recruits from within, they will have the advantage of knowing the employee. Or at least, they would feel that they know the employee. An employee of course that is picked for a position from within a company, may not have the right temperament for the job (it's essential that a company looks at the employee's reviews, asks his or her current manager(s) for feedback and interviews the employee thoroughly). I also feel that a personality test and or some sort of test that checks for aptitudes (which more companies are using now, both for hiring and promotions) would be worthwhile for the company to do before they promote the specific worker too. But, even with this, the employee, even if he or she "aces" the interview, and on paper and word of mouth from within seems to be an absolute perfect match, ...
