- Cultural differences
We will explore the Peruvian culture and how it compares to American culture. We will compare the cultures using Hofstede's six dimensions, which are elaborated below.
Power Distance;
Power Distance is the extent to which people accept inequalities between people in societies. Peru has a high PDI of 67. This is reflected in their hierarchical and centralized organizations and higher salary differences. This high PDI in Peru could be a legacy of the Inca civilization that existed in Peru. It could also be attributed to the authoritarian governments that have been in Peru. Subordinates are wary of their bosses and Managers demand respect from subordinates, especially those of black or indigenous origin. USA has a lower power distance of 40, indicating that all are perceived to be equal with low hierarchy and easy accessibility of superiors.
