Microsoft is facing many difficulties in China because of adaptation issues in this country; labor rights problems and human rights problems. China has terrible labor rights and human rights problems, common forms of labor rights abuse include physical abuse, forced labor, child labor, improper deductions from wages, and dangerous working conditions. The Chinese government does not enforce labor laws, therefore, Microsoft must undertake special measures to ensure its employees and subcontracted employees are not suffering labor rights abuses, and there is no evidence that Microsoft is adequately addressing these problems. The government does not permit the existence of any group that could potentially challenge their authority, including religious organizations and trade unions. This threat to Microsoft employees is actual and not theoretical. According to the Irish Times, a Chinese Microsoft employee applied for political asylum in Ireland this year. She fled persecution for her religious activities if she were forced to return to China. In support of her asylum application, Amnesty International wrote to the Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs that she might face detention and torture in China because of her religious activities.
