We will look at each company separately, which will allow for a clearer contrast between the two organizations. For this discussion, I will use a Hyundai auto dealer and a Starbucks coffee house. Most people have been to an auto dealership and a coffee shop, and the organization, structure, and processes of the organizations are the same, regardless of brand. A Starbucks handles their operations in the same general way that another coffee house would, and a Hyundai car dealer handles their operations in the same basic way that a GMC dealer would.
When you walk into a Starbucks coffee house, the employees are performing several jobs. Upon entrance, one employee was cleaning and arranging the seating area, and ensuring that all tables and wiped off and that all chairs were in their places. Most modern coffee shops, including the Starbucks shops, have actual furniture mixed in with their seating, so that it appears more of a "living room" type atmosphere. The employee who was maintaining the area was also ensuring that there were no spills on the furniture or end tables in the same area.
Two employees were working behind the counter. One employee was taking customer orders, and was responsible for collecting money from customers. The other employee was the order preparation person, and was responsible for preparing each order to the customer's specifications. As you sit in the customer area, conversation could also be heard from behind the swinging kitchen door, which was likely the workers in the back area of the coffee shop, that are most likely charged with handling operations that are away from the public's view.
There were several characteristics that made up the demographics and psychodemographics of the employees at the coffee house. The three employees in the coffee house were all women in the approximate age range of late twenties to early forties. Each employee was professional in ...
