We conducted a laboratory practical in aim to investigate the action of the neurotransmitters acetylcholine and noradrenaline on mammalian gut motility. Upon addition of either of the two drugs we recorded the rhythmic contractions generated by the basic electric rhythm. by plotting the results I was able to draw a sigmoidal curve; also I was able to identify that acetylcholine has a depolarising action where as noradrenaline hyperpolarising however I am unsure on why the sigmoidal curve was produced and also what the effects of INCREASING the concentrations of each drug on the tonic tension of the smooth gut muscle are along with the effects on rate and amplitude of rhythmic contractions.© BrainMass Inc. brainmass.com October 25, 2018, 9:19 am ad1c9bdddf
