The heart is the organ that is responsible for controlling how blood flows into and out of the body. The heart is the master organ in the center of the body that controls life itself. The heart distributes the flow of blood throughout the body for nourishment, oxygen, and waste. Blood that picks up oxygen from the lungs is pumped into the heart and distributed throughout the cells. The heart controls the circulatory system. The basic components of the circulatory system are the heart, blood vessels, and the blood. Blood circulates around the body and picks up oxygen from the lungs, nutrients from small intestines, and hormones from endocrine glands and delivers these to the cells. Blood then picks up carbon dioxide and waste from the cells and delivers them to the lung and kidneys. The heart is the organ that control what is pumping out and in.

The heart is a hollow cone-shaped muscular organ that is the center of all these activities. It beats more than 100,000 times a day and close to 2.5 billion times in a lifetime. The heart hast two pumps. The right atrium receives blood carrying carbon dioxide from the body through a major veins, and delivers it to the right ventricles. The right ventricles pumps blood to the lungs via pulmonary artery. The left atrium receives oxygen rich blood from the lungs and delivers it to the left ventricles. The left ventricles pumps it into the aorta. The left ventricles are thicker than wall of the right ventricles making it more powerful pump. The heart has one-way valves that keep blood flowing in the right direction and prevent backflow.

The heart performs all these necessary functions to support life. Without the heart, blood would not get pump throughout the body and into the cells. Life would not exist so the heart is more than the sum of the tissues it comprises. The beating of the heart determine life itself. It is like the master switch that gets turn on constitutively. Thus, it is more than the tissues it comprises because it determines life.
