In reference to Weber, when he used the term Verstehen, this was to elucidate upon the ability to understand, as this is a German term that pronounces how to better perceive, know or understand the nature and significance of any research topic. When dealing with research, there is a phenomenon that must be accounted for to ensure that the researcher has the ability to effectively grasp what has been presented with the research literature that is used for the research topic. Therefore, this is the meaning wherein the intent is to ensure that the researcher has the ability to understand the entire conceptual framework and theoretical framework associated with any phenomenon. According to Weber, there are four types of social action that need to be accounted for when attempting to assess the impetus for incorporating these into the theoretical framework, and these include the rational, irrational, affective, and traditional types of social action.
