In this posting, the student will learn the sociology of religion. Statistics and theoretical perspectives of religion will be explained.

Religion is a major part of society. It is a part of every culture. Religion connects or binds us together. It compels us to consider a higher power and to help others. In addition, it provides comfort during times of distress. Webster's dictionary has several meanings for the word religion: the service and worship of God or the supernatural; commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance; and a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices.

Regardless of religious preference, all regions have symbols and rituals. Most religions share the rituals of prayer and alms giving. Also, for most, there is a guide or Bible that is followed and taught.
