As of the year 2002 the populationof the world reached 6.2billion. Throughout the ancient history of earth, the population was somewhat constant at 500 million people. Sometime in the mid 1700's the population of earth began to increase due to industralization. Modern medicine, sanitation and dietary advances continue to add to the average life span of humans. The world populationis currently increasing at a rate of 77 million people a year.
