Ethics and family values are essential to a healthy community. When considered together, we can examine the question of true family values. True family values are based upon principles by which we can define standards of right and wrong (ethics), how to achieve goals of health and happiness, and practical means toward success. In fact, all people desire family values, such as
· Love
· Care
· Intimacy
· Acceptance
· Commitment
· Shared responsibility. (1)

This is why people from all religious, political and social persuasions say our society needs family values. (1) That is, the family values that plays a positive role in our world. However, the flip side can also true for family values that are not considered health promoting to either the family or the community, such as a lack of love, control that promotes family and community violence and manipulation, judgmental, lack of intimacy or commitment and the rules are made by the rule maker; for the good of only the rule maker (often the controlling parent or a boss or others in authority). There is no shared responsibility but family value of blame permeates this (negative) list of family values.
