Sociology is a social science that seeks to unravel the inner mechanisms of society. In a sense, it seeks to understand human behaviour in order to interpret the social world. It examines the themes & patterns of culture, social stratification & interaction/relations. Sociologists aim to understand human behaviour to get to a level of generalizing its causes & effects, in order to understand how society influences individuals & groups and therefore be able to predict the future of human behaviour & posit scenarios. Sociology as an important social science for governments & human institutions (businesses, hospitals, organisations). Measures for development, protection, interaction & improvement of cities & nations are based on sociological studies more often than not & governmental policy makers look to sociologists to study the best possible ways in finding solutions for social problems (i.e. homelessness, poverty, racism, crime). In the United States, sociological research is carried out to provide provides educators, planners, lawmakers, administrators, developers, business leaders, etc. in finding solutions to social problems to arrive at rationale & public policies for actions to take. Management Science utilizes sociology for understanding organizational behaviour. Sociology as a field of study is closely related to anthropology, criminology, political science, social sciences, economics & psychology.
