The role of funerals and other after-death rites reflect the diverse religious and beliefs, and change somewhat across cultures. There has also been a trend in our culture today to claim a ceremony surrounding the death of a loved one as being unsophisticated and a waste of money. We here: "Don't fuss over me. Just cremate me and save your money." Perhaps, people think they are making it "convenient" for our loved ones in this way. However, the funeral plays a major role in acceptance and grief for the family and friends.

That is, after-death rituals, such as funerals are far from being solely religious rituals; they're also occasions at which emotions run high. While mourning the loss of loved ones, people should be free to cry, protest, sing and express their sorrow, sadness and anger in whatever way they like. Thus, a funeral acts as a psychological closure where people say goodbye to their loved ones (grief therapy), but also often have a religious component where the priest or minister prays for the deceased person (i.e., to pass into the afterlife, which is often a belief, such as Heaven). http://www.thenewanatolian.com/tna-12192.html
