There are generally seven dimensions to each religion. Those dimensions include the practical and ritual dimension which involves some type of worship including prayer or preaching. These rituals are important to the human experience as they provide comfort and familiar properties for families and friends. Some examples of this include sacrificial rituals in the Hindu religion or Jews attending Temple on religious holidays.

There is also the experiential and emotional dimension which is essentially the expressive element of religion, the power that fuels an individual experience. There is also the narrative or mythic dimension, which involves the story side of religions. Take, for instance, the Christianity story of creationism that has enchanted its believers for centuries- such stories strengthen religious belief.

In addition, there is the doctrine and philosophical dimension to consider, which involves philosophy integrated into the religion itself. Buddha actually incorporates philosophy into his religious doctrine, thus making it a part of his social reality. The idea is similar in Christianity with the idea of Jesus' life which represents the three aspects of Jesus in the doctrine of Trinity.

There is also the ethical dimension, which calls to mind greater institutions such as marriage and the legal system. A great example of this may be demonstrated by the Sharia Law, a set of laws that helps shape the Islamic life and helps conduct the moral doing of each Muslim individual. A similar idea is conducted and contained by the ten commandments for Judaism. All religious doctrines tend to set up a system for what is right and wrong. The material dimension is equally important to the rest of the dimensions. This dimension includes scared features of religions such as the holy city of Jerusalem or the Bodh Gaya which "commemorates the Buddha's Enlightenment"
