1) Fathered by Sigmund Freud, psychoanalysis focuses on how childhood events affect mental functioning in later life. Freud's theories focused on concepts of repression, unconsciousness, and conflict resolution, as well as sexual repression in early development. Although psychoanalysis has fallen out of favor, Freud was able to link adult psychological disorder to unconscious repression of what may have happened in childhood. Psychoanalysis causes us to attribute and explore human behavior and cognition through childhood experiences.
