On Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

US Psychologist Abraham Maslow proposed human needs are organized in a kind of hierarchy. There are those that are fundamental and the most basic - the foundation necessary for human beings to live. When these are achieved, one can move on through to the next level and each build on top of each other, like a pyramid. When one reaches the top of the pyramid, he proposes that one is on the path of self-actualization. Self-actualization is the ultimate goal - that stage when one is about to, or has already reached his potentials, his hopes and dreams. It is a stage when one's desires to achieve his goals, to become a particular 'person' is about to or has already been made 'real'. The image below (Wiki, Public, 2012) shows Maslow's hierarchy of needs and the 5 levels that build on top of each other side by side with what each level encompasses/entails:

Each level as shown above is pretty much self explanatory. Basically, human needs are ordered according to importance. As pictured in the needs Pyramid, the basics - breathing, food, water, sleep, homeostasis, sex & excretion comes first because it allows for the continuation of life in a human being. The next levels - Safety (employment, resources, morality, health, property), Love & Belonging (friendship, family, ...
