The consensus among mental health professionals is that factors such as same-sex behavior is no longer stigmatized as an abnormal behavior. However there are gender identity disorders that specifically affects one gender over the other. For example, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR [APA], 2000) has classified sexual disorders for women and men under "Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders" (p. 535). "The section contains Paraphilias and gender identity disorders [or sexual dysfunctions]. The sexual dysfunctions are characterized as by "disturbances in desire and the psycho-physiological changes that characterize the sexual response cycle and cause marked distress and interpersonal difficulty" (p. 535). The following sexual dysfunctions are presented to explain two causes of a sexual disorder. The first primarily affects men, and the latter most often affects women.
