Applying the concept of falsifiability to psychological theory:

Define the concept of Falsifiability:

Falsifiability is in contrast to TRUTH ... that is, psychological theories should be stated so they may be potentially proven false (you'll learn more about this within the other questions of this assignment). When something is absolute or true, no one argues with it; it remains. However, in contrast, when something is potentially false, it is questionable, and others attempt to prove opposition to the falsehood. Psychological theory should be made naturally falsified in order to evolve. In other words theories or opinions made by researchers should be questionable, so that others within the field may offer new insights and evolve one's prediction(s).

Lutus (2009) says, "scientific theories can only be falsified, they can never be proven true once and for all."

Sternberg, et al (p.149) reference that falsifiability is how we should make unambiguous predictions based on a theory and conduct empirical tests that could potentially bring the theory into doubt... using falsification in action.
