    Can you please help me with a short description of PTSD for a research paper?

    Post-traumatic stress syndrome not only affects the individual person but also the immediate family and their lives. For example when at a son's or daughter's track meet when the starter's pistol goes off so could the father's flashbacks could happen. Even after hearing car backfires could set off setbacks.

    Post traumatic stress disorder according to the DSM-IV-TR is the following.

    Review of diagnostic criteria when the person has been exposed to a traumatic event.
    1. the person experienced, witnessed, or was confronted with an event or events that involved actual or threatened death or serious injury, or a threat to the physical integrity of self or others.
    2. the person's response involved intense fear, helplessness, or horror. (Note: In children, this may be expressed instead by disorganized or agitated behavior.
