The purpose of psychological testing is to help clinical psychologists better understand the behaviours of people and what makes them act the way they do. There are many components that go into this understanding, and people can vary quite different in the external and environmental factors that must be considered, so testing has been developed as an aid for the psychologists to arrive at a diagnosis. In essence, testing enables a psychologist to determine the core components that affect an individuals psychological or mental health problems. In addition, personality and IQ tests have been developed to better understand the behaviours of people, and the intellectual capability. This is a key point to remember, because psychological testing does not equate to mental illness. There should not be a stigma attached to such tests, particularly in the case of emotionally stable and healthy individuals. In fact, such tests often just provide individuals with knowledge they need about their own behaviour, so they can better their own inherent strengths and weaknesses.
