The significance of the relationship is that it may inform an understanding of if counseling shows a significant effect on decreasing levels of depression or anxiety following a miscarriage within certain time frames.

The research design consists of semi-structured interviews and surveys. A semi-structured interview is constructed without a set of predetermined questions. The researcher is seeking more in-depth responses to his or her research question (s). Hypothetically, the interview will be held with the two groups, those involving participants who had counseling directly after miscarriage and those who had counseling one year later or greater after a miscarriage. According to Maxwell (2005), the questions that are asked in the interview will help to generate the ideas upon which to build your research. For instance, you can conduct this design to gain more detailed information regarding the phenomena understudy to address your research question (e.g., when counseling/support shows a significant effect in reducing depression after a miscarriage).
