The purpose of this qualitative study is to determine the relationship between counseling/support effects on depression/anxiety levels directly after a miscarriage versus counseling/support effects on depression/anxiety levels following a miscarriage 1 year or greater. The significance of the relationship is that it may inform an understanding of if counseling shows a significant effect on decreasing levels of depression or anxiety following a miscarriage within certain time frames.

Describe the method you will use. This section must accomplish the following:

i) Presents the design of the study and justify the use of a specific research method.

The research design consists of semi-structured interviews and surveys. A semi-structured interview is constructed without a set of predetermined questions. The researcher is seeking more in-depth responses to his or her research question (s). Hypothetically, the interview will be held with the two groups, those involving participants who had counseling directly after miscarriage and those who had counseling one year later or greater after a miscarriage. According to Maxwell (2005), the questions that are asked in the interview will help to generate the ideas upon which to build your research. For instance, you can conduct this design to gain more detailed information regarding the phenomena understudy to address your research question (e.g., when counseling/support shows a significant effect in reducing depression after a miscarriage).

ii) Describes and justifies how the data is to be collected, including the

The research method used to collect the data is the Phenomenological method. This method is used when the researcher wants to obtain the specific views of the client regarding particular phenomena related to the research question (s). In this case you want to know when counseling support is most effective after a miscarriage (directly after the miscarriage or a year or later. The phenomenological method in a qualitative study usually take the form of case ...
