    Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is explained by the DSM-IV-TR as someone who makes extreme efforts to avoid abandonment whether real or imagined (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). These individuals are unstable, impulsive, exhibit self-damaging behaviors, have anger problems, and typically have problems with self-image (American Psychiatric Association, 2000).
