Clinical psychologists utilize various tools to help diagnose mental illness and disease. Understood as psychological assessment, these tools also are used to determine competency and guide individuals into a deeper understanding of their vocational and other likes and dislikes.
Based on assessments, psychologists develop and apply effective therapeutic treatment plans and interventions. Research shows that people differ in their abilities, interests for a number of occupations, personality traits, abilities, preferences and competencies (Brown, 2003).
