Is there a critical period for language acquisition
There is likely not a critical period for language acquisition, in the strict sense of the word. Recall that a critical period means that the skill MUST be developed within that period of time; if it is not developed by then, it will NEVER develop. We can contrast this with a sensitive period, where the skill will be much EASIER to develop during that period of time, but it will be possible to develop at a later time (with more effort).
