Skinner's contribution to psychology is vast, since he shed light into animal and human learning, and explained ways that we learn and process stimuli in the environment. He helped pave the theory of operant conditioning which is defined as the modification of behavior by making the presence or absence of rewards or punishment contingent on behavior. This is also called instrumental learning. Keep in mind that punishment is not always "negative", while reinforcement is not always "positive"
