Critical thinking is the manner of looking into, reasoning, reflecting upon and 'arresting' an idea, information or concept so that the individual can weigh it to choose to believe or not to believe, to accept or invalidate. Is the claim true? Is it partially true or utterly false? These questions are the ones that a critical thinker asserts so as to ascertain the value and meaning of an idea, a position or a knowledge claim. This is essential in everyday life as well in conducting key decisions in a professional role. Leaders, for example, must be critical thinkers so that the decisions that they make would be based upon comprehensive and intense research and validation of available information and resources to ensure that the decision they make will be good for their organizations and companies or, in the case of politicians - their constituents, communities and nations. It is taught as a skill to students as they progress through the education system.
