Section B.1. “Respecting client Rights” – Counselors must consider multicultural/diversity within an awareness and sensitivity concerning confidentially and privacy as it relates to culture. Counselors must respect different views toward disclosure of information, and make clients aware of who will have access to this information [B.1.a).
Section C.2.a- “Boundaries of competence”--states that counselors practice only within boundaries of their competence relative to education, training and appropriate professional experience. They are to obtain knowledge, personal awareness, and skills in efforts to work with a diverse client population.
Section C.5- “Non-discrimination” sets forth guidelines that caution not to engage in discussions or acts of discrimination of clients based on their age, disability, ethnicity, race, religion, spirituality, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, partnership, language preference, socioeconomic status or an basis proscribed by law. This standard is extended to include nondiscrimination against clients, students, employees, supervisees, or research participants in any manner that would have a negative impact on them.
