Peer-reviewed articles are considered as scholarly literature based on an efforts designed to present the evidence for a particular practice (Guerriri, 2012). She clarifies this statement by suggesting that a peer review of authorship provide information regarding practical involvement in researching a topic. For instance, Guerriri's work suggest that conducting research in peer-reviewed journals on topics such as emotional based disorders (EBD)indicates that the practitioner has actually participated in the research, and generates clear instances of practitioner reviews such as providing access to a classroom, as opposed to implementing a strategy that has been studied by others (p. 89).
The differences between peer-reviewed articles and non-peer-reviewed articles is the process required. For example, Wenke Jongwha, LaClair, & Paz, (2013) perform a systematic review of the current literature to assess for an association between integrated healthcare delivery systems and changes in cost and quality within the system. They utilized both peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed sources. Non-peer-reviewed sources include publications on the subject, white papers, reports and various industrial organization reports that hand not been independently evaluated. On the other hand, peer-reviewed articles must go through a rigorous process of prepare for publication. In fact, the American Psychological Association (APA) publication manual the author's responsibilities in preparing a manuscript for peer review including administrative and ethical considerations (p. 225). Further, Schoenfeld, Janney, & Rekart (2013) assert that an example of authorship affiliation within peer-reviewed work should provide a 'reasonably accurate assessment" of the degree to which practitioners provide substantial contribution to research articles. For instance, as they point out, the article provides information in which practitioners participate as authors in peer reviewed journal of specialists in the field (p. 90).
