    One excellent theory of morality that can be utilized to discuss the rights and obligations of employees and employers is Immanuel Kant's categorical imperative in its two different formulations from his book, Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals. It is "categorical" because it covers all possible situations, and it is an imperative because it is a command of reason. The first formulation commands the rational being to universalize the maxim or rule of their action, in order to see if the maxim contradicts itself.
